LETTERS: Break down barriers for overseas med students
August 18, 2009 | Frances Budden

Re: Opinion: “Subsidizing med students at overseas schools one way to ease doctor shortage” (the Medical Post, July 21)

For the medical student at an overseas school to return to Canada, postgraduate training must be available in family medicine, medical and surgical specialities. The prerequisites for the med student must be absolutely clear to make their return not just feasible, but streamlined and sure.

Our “leaders,” both political and medical, should facilitate their return by breaking down the barriers: federally, provincially and in the provincial medical regulatory bodies.—Dr. Frances Budden, Toronto.
